Cox Communications, Inc. has partnered with the NetSmartz Workshop and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children by providing over $25 million in air-time to run NetSmartz Public-Service Announcements (PSA) on Cox cable networks. The NetSmartz PSAs will run on networks such as Toon Disney, and the Cartoon Network. The Parent PSA, targeted at getting parents to take a more active role in their child's online activities, will run on networks viewed primarily by adults.
In addition to providing air time, Cox has partnered with NetSmartz in their effort to empower parents and caregivers in their "Take Charge! — Smart Choices for Your Cox Digital Home" campaign. Cox included NetSmartz as a resource for their customers by linking to NetSmartz on their web site at www.cox.com/takecharge and including online safety tips in the Take Charge! resource guide.
Cox has made a $50,000 cash donation to NetSmartz to sponsor community workshops. Cox will work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to promote Internet safety in local communities by facilitating workshops for parents and educators using NetSmartz interactive presentations and assemblies for elementary students. "Take Charge! — Smart Choices for Your Cox Digital Home" is a community outreach campaign developed by Cox Communications, Inc. to empower parents and caregivers to manage their children's access to mass media content. Launched in July 2004, the initiative strives to increase customers' awareness and use of the parental controls and filtering tools already available on their cable and Internet services. Providing tools and resources that are easy to understand and implement, Take Charge! helps parents find great educational television shows and web sites while keeping their families safe from content they find inappropriate. Program components include a comprehensive web site (www.cox.com/takecharge), free resource guide, and local educational activities within the community Cox serves.
